Building a successful technology infrastructure requires you to take some time to define what you need, research the options and prioritize those options. To begin this process, we recommend that you follow these four steps:

“Before you start, define the problem.”

This is a concept that’s often lost on people when they try to solve problems in their lives. They don’t stop and ask themselves what exactly they want to accomplish with their solution–they just dive right in. But if you don’t know where you’re going, how will you know if it’s working?

If I were trying to lose weight myself and had no idea how much I weighed or how much fitness was required for my goals (e.g., “I want to look good naked”), I wouldn’t know whether or not my efforts were successful until after several months of working out at least three times per week with no progress made towards any tangible fitness goal (e.g., being able to run five miles). In fact, because most people aren’t aware of what constitutes an appropriate amount of exercise for them personally or what kind of results are possible given their current level of fitness, most people end up feeling demotivated and frustrated when their bodies don’t respond immediately like those on TV commercials do!

Research the Technology Options

The first step in building a successful technology infrastructure is to research the options. Before you start looking at specific products and services, consider the needs of your business, employees and customers. Then think about how they are going to interact with each other over time as well as what type of relationship they will have with other companies in the ecosystem (such as suppliers and partners).

This is not an easy process but it’s important that you take some time at this point because it will affect everything else that comes next–and if done right can save thousands or even millions of dollars down the road!

Identify Technology Priorities

Now that you know the essentials of what your technology infrastructure should look like, it’s time to identify the priorities of each component.

It’s important to consider all options before making a decision on which technology partner or solution will best suit your organization’s needs. There are many factors to consider when choosing a technology partner–including price, reputation and experience with similar projects–but it’s also essential to know whether they have experience working within your industry or vertical market niche. A good example is if you’re building out an online store for medical supplies: You wouldn’t want an e-commerce platform designed by someone who doesn’t understand how doctors think about purchasing medical supplies!

  • Prioritize Your Technology Partner(s)

Once you’ve narrowed down all possible solutions based on their capabilities and cost structure (and hopefully identified at least two finalists), it’s time for another round of evaluation: How well do these providers communicate? Are they easy enough work with? Do they offer flexible payment options? These are all questions worth asking before signing on any dotted line!

Choosing the right technology partner is one of the most important decisions you’ll make as a business owner. You want to choose someone who understands your business and will work with you to build an infrastructure that will solve your problems.

This doesn’t mean they have to be an IT expert, but it does mean they should understand what makes sense for your company and how best to implement it. For example, if you are looking for advice on building out cloud storage infrastructure or migrating from older systems like Exchange 2007 to Office 365, then there are different criteria than choosing someone who can help develop new software applications for use within their organization (although both types of services may be offered by the same vendor).
